Project xCloud Is Coming to Your TV… Without the Console

Microsoft has hit gold with its Project xCloud streaming service, but it’s not resting on its laurels. The tech giant has just announced that it plans to bring the service to internet-connected televisions, and no console is required.

Microsoft’s Project xCloud, Now On (Just) Your TV

Microsoft announced the feature on the Xbox Wire. The whole announcement is jam-packed with some amazing stuff, so if you’re a fan of all things Xbox, you really owe it to yourself to check it out.

For instance, Microsoft reveals that Xbox Game Pass owners play 30 percent more genres, and 40 percent more games overall. Plus, 90 percent of Xbox Game Pass owners said they used the Pass to try a game they’d otherwise not consider playing.

Also, Microsoft is proud to announce that Project xCloud will arrive in Australia, Brazil, Mexico, and Japan later this year. This means even more Xbox gamers will get to experience playing triple-A games on any device they like.

However, buried within all the news and information is this fascinating gem:

Xbox is working with global TV manufacturers to embed the Xbox experience directly into internet-connected televisions with no extra hardware required except a controller.

Essentially, Microsoft wants to make it so you can enjoy Xbox games without ever owning an actual console. All you have to do is sign up to the Xbox Game Pass, grab a controller, and stream the game right to your television.

Microsoft did give us hints before that it wanted to eventually take the console out of the equation. However, back then, we believed that your Xbox Series X would be replaced by a USB stick. Now, Microsoft believes it can cut that out too and stream directly to your TV.

It’s a huge move for the cloud gaming world, and if it goes well, it may spell the eventual end toward needing a console to play console games. Hopefully, Microsoft will give us more information on this feature soon.

Xbox Game Pass, Without the Xbox

As cloud gaming begins to take off, Microsoft is experimenting with giving people a fantastic Xbox experience without ever owning a console. Soon, internet-connected TVs will let you stream Project xCloud right onto your big screen, and all you need is a controller.

If you haven’t had your eye on the cloud gaming market recently, now is a good time to check it out. There are plenty of really powerful competitors out there including GeForce Now and Shadow, and they’re all vying to become the king of gaming on the cloud.
