Here Are All the Macs That Support macOS Monterey

Apple took the wraps off macOS Monterey at the all-online WWDC event on June 7, and it’s already available as an early experimental build to developers. This gives developers the time to update all their apps before the software’s public release later this year.

At this point, you’re probably curious to see if your aging Mac is capable of running the latest version of macOS when it comes out in the fall.

Here’s a look at all the Macs that officially support macOS Monterey.

macOS Monterey Compatibility List

Below are all the existing Mac models that’ll receive the macOS Monterey as a software update. This does not include any Macs that Apple may announce in the near future before the final release:

  • MacBook Pro (early 2015 and later)
  • MacBook Air (early 2015 and later)
  • MacBook (early 2016 and later)
  • Mac Mini (late 2014 and later)
  • iMac (late 2015 and later)
  • iMac Pro (2017 and later)
  • Mac Pro (late 2013 and later)

Notably missing from this list compared to last year’s macOS Big Sur-compatible devices are the 2013 and 2014 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models. Apple has also dropped support for the 2015 MacBook and 2014 iMac.

Release Date for macOS Monterey

Apple doesn’t give an exact release date for its software until it’s very close. However, if we go by the previous years, you can expect Apple to roll out macOS Monterey some time in the fall (September to November).

That being said, if you’re not patient enough to wait that long, you can enroll your Mac in the public beta program. Apple has announced that the public beta will be available in July with no mention of a specific date.

All the Reasons to Be Excited for Monterey

The next iteration of macOS is certainly more than just an incremental update for the Mac. For starters, Safari is getting a major visual and functional overhaul with support for Tab Groups. Universal Control makes it easy to use your Mac’s keyboard and mouse with your iPad and seamlessly switch between them.

Socializing from your Mac gets better with features such as SharePlay, screen sharing, Portrait mode for video calls, and more. If you own an iPhone or iPad, you can now AirPlay content to your Mac. The iOS Shortcuts app has also made its way to macOS devices as well.

As you can tell by now, there’s so much to look forward to.
